The Nigerian defender is set to join the Bees’ senior squad for the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.

Super Eagles defender Benjamin Fredrick has strengthened his future at Brentford after signing a new long-term contract with the Premier League club ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The English side announced on Friday that the 21-year-old Nigerian international has agreed to a four-year deal, with Brentford also holding the option to extend his stay by an additional season.
The new agreement comes after Fredrick earned promotion to Brentford’s senior squad and joined the team’s pre-season preparations under recently appointed head coach Keith Andrews.
Speaking on the Nigerian defender’s new Brentford contract, Andrews praised Fredrick’s progress and expressed confidence in his ability to develop into an important member of the first-team squad.
“We’re delighted that Benji has signed a new deal and is going to be part of the group this season because we see a lot of potential in him and where we can bring his game to,” Andrews said.
The Brentford manager also highlighted the defender’s growing experience at international level, noting that Fredrick has already represented the Super Eagles during Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
According to Andrews, Brentford’s immediate objective is to help the young defender fully recover from the knee injury that cut short his loan spell with Belgian outfit FCV Dender before gradually integrating him into the Premier League side.
Fredrick’s rise has been remarkable. The Kaduna-born defender developed his game at Simoiben Football Academy before featuring for Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC and Nasarawa United in Nigeria.
His move to Brentford B initially came on loan in 2023, but his consistent displays convinced the club to complete a permanent transfer the following year. His impressive performances were further recognised when he received the Brentford B Players’ Player of the Year award.

The Nigerian centre-back has also enjoyed significant progress on the international stage. He made his senior Super Eagles debut against Jamaica in the Unity Cup final before starting Nigeria’s final four matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series. He also featured during Nigeria’s African World Cup play-off campaign.
Reacting after signing his new Brentford contract, Fredrick expressed his appreciation to everyone at the club for supporting his development since arriving in England.
“It’s a great feeling. I’m happy and proud of myself, and my family are proud of me as well,” the defender said.
“The club has helped me a lot. Especially Neil (MacFarlane) when I first came here. He always encouraged me, never shouted when I made mistakes and just told me to keep my head down and keep playing. He’s helped me grow as a player and a person as well.”
Looking ahead, the Super Eagles defender said his next ambition is to establish himself in Brentford’s first team and make his Premier League debut.
“I just want to keep pushing and learning every single day. My aim is to make my debut with the first team, get Premier League minutes and give my best when I have the opportunity.”
With his long-term future now secured, Benjamin Fredrick will be hoping to continue his development and become the latest Nigerian defender to make a lasting impact in the Premier League, while strengthening his place in the Super Eagles setup ahead of future international assignments.
