Nigerian striker rescues a point for the Turkish champions after Çorum FK overturned Galatasaray’s lead.

Victor Osimhen began the new Turkish Süper Lig campaign with a statement performance, scoring twice as Galatasaray were held to a 2-2 draw by newly promoted Çorum FK at RAMS Park.

The Nigeria international struck once in each half, including a late equaliser in the 90th minute, but his goals were not enough to give the defending champions victory in their opening league fixture of the 2026/27 season.

Osimhen puts Galatasaray ahead

Galatasaray controlled much of the opening period but could not find a way through a determined Çorum defence before the interval.

Osimhen remained a constant threat in attack and eventually broke the deadlock eight minutes after half-time.

The Nigerian forward finished from a Lucas Torreira pass to put Galatasaray 1-0 ahead in the 53rd minute, opening his account for the new Süper Lig season.

The goal appeared to put the champions on course for a routine opening-day victory.

Instead, Çorum produced a remarkable response.

Çorum turn the game around

The visitors levelled six minutes later when Alexandros Kyziridis found the net with a long-range strike.

Çorum then completed a remarkable turnaround shortly afterwards, with Jesús Ramírez taking advantage of a defensive mistake to put the newly promoted side 2-1 in front.

The visitors’ advantage was threatened in the 70th minute when Kyziridis was shown a red card following a foul on Yunus Akgün, leaving Çorum with 10 players for the closing stages.

That dismissal gave Galatasaray renewed hope as they increased the pressure in search of an equaliser.

Osimhen rescues Galatasaray

With the clock approaching full time, Osimhen once again delivered.

The striker rose to meet Gabriel Sara’s corner in the 90th minute and headed the ball into the net to restore parity and complete his brace.

The late goal prevented Galatasaray from suffering a shock home defeat, but the champions were unable to find a third goal before the final whistle.

The match ended 2-2, giving Çorum an impressive point on their Süper Lig debut while Galatasaray were forced to settle for a draw despite Osimhen’s two goals.

Galatasaray will now have to address the defensive problems exposed by Çorum’s second-half comeback as they begin their title defence.

For Çorum FK, holding the reigning champions to a 2-2 draw in their first Süper Lig appearance represents a memorable start to life in Turkey’s top flight.
