Super Falcons attacker signs a three-year contract with the Damallsvenskan champions.
Swedish women’s football champions BK Häcken have completed the signing of Super Falcons striker Joy Omewa, with the Nigerian forward putting pen to paper on a three-year contract.
The 23-year-old arrives as a free agent after leaving English Women’s Super League 2 club Nottingham Forest, becoming the latest Nigerian player to continue her career in Scandinavian football.
Omewa will not be the only Nigerian at BK Häcken, as she joins forces with experienced Super Falcons midfielder Halimatu Ayinde, who is already part of the Swedish club’s squad.
Omewa completed the move to BK Häcken after a short spell with Nottingham Forest, having previously made her mark at Fortuna Hjørring in Denmark. During the 2024/25 season, she scored 22 league goals in 24 matches and played a key role in Fortuna’s domestic league and cup triumph before joining the English club in January 2026.
Her impressive form attracted interest beyond Denmark, with BK Häcken moving quickly to secure the services of one of Nigeria’s most promising attacking talents.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Omewa said her time in Denmark played a major role in improving her effectiveness in front of goal.
She explained that much of her development centered on becoming a more clinical striker, particularly through better movement and positioning inside the penalty area.
“I mainly developed my ability to score goals, especially positional play in the penalty area. I worked a lot on mastering how to be as efficient as possible inside the box,” she told BK Häcken’s official website.
The former Confluence Queens forward also revealed that joining BK Häcken was an easy decision because of the club’s strong reputation for nurturing talented players.
“I know that BK Häcken is a fantastic club that helps its talents develop. I feel that this is the right place for me,” she said.
BK Häcken’s football director Martin Ericsson believes Omewa possesses the qualities needed to strengthen the club’s attack.
Ericsson praised the Nigerian international for combining physical strength with intelligent movement, describing her as a striker who consistently looks to create and convert scoring opportunities.
He also expressed confidence that her winning mentality and energetic personality will make her a valuable addition both on and off the pitch.
Omewa is currently representing Nigeria at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where she will be hoping to help the Super Falcons defend their continental title before linking up with her new teammates in Sweden.
