Samuel Chukwueze produced a standout performance as AC Milan came from behind twice to defeat Manchester United 4-2 in their final pre-season friendly at the Tarczyński Arena in Wrocław, Poland.
The Nigerian winger scored Milan’s first goal and later turned provider twice as Ruben Amorim’s side completed a four-goal comeback against his former club.
Gonçalo Ramos also played a major role in the victory, scoring once and contributing two assists as Milan finished their pre-season preparations with an impressive result.
Manchester United make flying start
Manchester United needed only two minutes to take the lead.
Harry Maguire rose highest from a corner and headed the ball beyond AC Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, giving Michael Carrick’s side an early advantage.
Milan responded positively and began creating openings of their own.
Chukwueze was particularly dangerous on the right, repeatedly looking to attack United’s defence with his pace and direct running.
His persistence eventually paid off in the 37th minute.
Chukwueze brings Milan level
Milan recovered possession in midfield before Ramos received the ball inside the attacking area.
Rather than attempting the finish himself, the Portuguese forward produced a clever pass to Chukwueze, who had found space in the box.
The Nigerian made no mistake, finishing to level the contest at 1-1.
Chukwueze’s goal was an important turning point after United had started the match strongly.
The winger’s night could have become even more productive before half-time, but United were awarded a penalty in the 40th minute.
Bruno Fernandes stepped up, only for Torriani to save his spot-kick and keep Milan within touching distance.
Dorgu restores United’s lead
United regained control shortly after the interval.
Patrick Dorgu capitalised on a defensive mistake from Milan and broke through to put the Premier League side 2-1 ahead in the 51st minute.
The goal appeared to put United back in command, but Milan’s response was swift.
Just six minutes later, Chukwueze turned from goalscorer into creator.
Chukwueze assists Cissé as Milan fight back
The Nigerian winger received the ball on the right and chose to cross rather than shoot.
His delivery found Alphadjo Cissé, who finished at the far post to bring Milan level for the second time.
At 2-2, the momentum had shifted decisively towards the Italian side.
Chukwueze remained at the centre of Milan’s attacking threat, while Ramos continued to influence the game with his movement and link-up play.
Ramos completes the comeback
Milan finally moved ahead in the 68th minute.
After a sustained passing move, Chukwueze was released down the right and delivered a precise cross into the area.
Ramos met the delivery with a header to put Milan 3-2 ahead.
The Portuguese striker had now contributed a goal and two assists, while Chukwueze had also recorded a goal and two assists.
Three minutes later, Milan added another.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek raced through after a brilliant piece of individual play involving Ramos before finishing to make it 4-2.
United had opportunities to reduce the deficit late on, with Torriani producing another important save to deny Marcus Rashford in a one-on-one situation.
But Milan held firm to secure their first victory of pre-season.
Chukwueze gives Amorim plenty to like
For Chukwueze, the performance was particularly encouraging.
The Nigerian international finished the game with one goal and two assists, playing a decisive role in three of Milan’s four goals.
His performance also underlined his ability to influence games from the right side, combining direct running with quality in the final third.
For Amorim, the result provides a significant boost ahead of Milan’s Serie A campaign, while also offering a measure of satisfaction against the club he previously managed.
Manchester United, meanwhile, will have to address the defensive issues exposed during the second half as they turn their attention to the start of the new Premier League season.
What comes next for Chukwueze and AC Milan?
The victory was Milan’s final major pre-season test before the beginning of the 2026/27 Serie A campaign.
For Nigerian football fans, however, much of the attention will remain on Chukwueze after his influential display against Manchester United.
