Flying Antelopes cite affordability, stronger fan support and easier access for supporters as key reasons for choosing Ikenne.
Enugu Rangers have chosen Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, as the venue for their home matches in the preliminary stages of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, opting against the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Flying Antelopes were reported to have evaluated several CAF-approved stadiums before deciding on the home ground of reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars.
According to information from sources close to the club, financial considerations played a significant role in the decision. Hiring the stadium in Ikenne was reportedly viewed as a more cost-effective option than using the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, making it the preferred choice for the club’s continental campaign.
Rangers also considered the importance of creating a strong home atmosphere during CAF Champions League matches. Club officials reportedly believe that hosting games in Ikenne would attract a larger and more vocal crowd, particularly because of the club’s sizeable following across Lagos and other parts of South-West Nigeria.
The location is also expected to make travelling easier for many supporters, who can reach Ikenne by road without the longer journey required to attend matches in Uyo. In addition, Remo Stars are understood to have pledged support in mobilising local football fans to help create an energetic matchday environment.
The decision comes as Rangers continue to monitor renovation work at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, popularly known as The Cathedral. The club intends to return to its traditional home ground once the upgrade is completed and the facility is ready to host continental fixtures again.
For now, Remo Stars Stadium will serve as Rangers’ temporary base as they prepare to begin their quest for success in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
