Crucial fixtures await in Calabar with clubs battling for top spot in their groups.

The race for promotion to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership continues on Monday as clubs return to the pitch for an important round of Matchday Two fixtures at the 2026 NWFL Championship in Calabar.

After an exciting opening day that produced 20 goals from eight matches, attention now shifts to another round of fixtures that could significantly influence the battle for promotion. While some teams will look to build on winning starts, others are aiming to recover from early setbacks and keep their qualification hopes alive.

In Group A, DreamStar Ladies will face First Mahi Babes at the U.J. Esuene Stadium. DreamStar enter the encounter in high spirits following their convincing 3-1 victory over Rosaria Victrix, while First Mahi Babes will be eager to respond after suffering a narrow defeat to Delta Babes. Earlier in the day, Delta Babes and Rosaria Victrix will also battle for valuable points.

The Group B fixtures begin with Gallant Queens taking on Pelican Stars, who started their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Ikukuoma Queens. The day’s second game in the group sees Ikukuoma Queens square off against Moje Queens, with both sides targeting an improved position on the table.

At St. Patrick’s Stadium, one of the most anticipated fixtures of the day will see Wazbak International Sports Academy meet Rangers Women FC in a key Group C contest. Wazbak will hope to build on their thrilling 3-2 win over Fortress Ladies, while Rangers Women FC are searching for their first victory after opening with a goalless draw against Unification FC. Elsewhere in the group, Unification FC face Fortress Ladies.

In Group D, Chosen Generation Angels will attempt to recover from their opening-day loss when they take on Ghetto Tigers, who claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Kwara Ladies in their first outing. Imo Striker Queens, meanwhile, will be aiming to continue their impressive form after a 3-0 win over Chosen Generation Angels as they prepare to face Kwara Ladies.

With only the group winners progressing to the NWFL Championship promotion playoffs, the margin for error is becoming increasingly slim. Every result from Matchday Two of the 2026 NWFL Championship in Calabar could prove decisive in determining which clubs remain on course for promotion to the NWFL Premiership.

Supporters can expect another entertaining day of women’s football as the competition moves into a crucial stage, with promotion ambitions firmly on the line.
