The respected Nigerian coach brings league-winning experience and national team pedigree to one of the country’s biggest clubs.

Four-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Kano Pillars have officially appointed Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede as their new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The announcement was made on Friday through the club’s official X account, bringing an end to speculation surrounding who would lead the Sai Masu Gida into the new campaign.

“We’ve reached an agreement to appoint Daniel Ogunmodede (Ijaball) as our new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/2027 football season,” the club stated.

“Welcome to Kano and the Sai Masu Gida family. We are happy to have you with us.”

The 46-year-old coach is expected to sign a two-year contract as he begins a fresh challenge with one of Nigeria’s most decorated football clubs.

Ogunmodede arrives in Kano with an impressive reputation after leading Remo Stars to their maiden NPFL title during the 2024/25 season. The historic triumph ended years of near misses for the Ikenne-based club and cemented their place among the elite teams in Nigerian football.

His success at Remo Stars earned widespread recognition, with many football stakeholders describing him as one of the country’s most progressive coaches. Before leaving the club towards the end of last season, Ogunmodede oversaw one of the most successful periods in Remo Stars’ history, transforming them into genuine title contenders.

Beyond his achievements at club level, Ogunmodede is also a key member of the Super Eagles coaching crew, serving as one of the assistant coaches under head coach Éric Chelle. His experience at both domestic and international levels is expected to strengthen Kano Pillars’ technical setup as the club looks to compete for major honours once again.

The appointment signals Kano Pillars’ determination to return to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League after several seasons without mounting a sustained title challenge. The club’s supporters will be hoping Ogunmodede can replicate the winning mentality and tactical discipline that helped Remo Stars secure their historic championship.

With preparations for the 2026/27 NPFL season gathering momentum, Kano Pillars are expected to officially unveil Ogunmodede in the coming days before pre-season activities begin.

The arrival of the league-winning coach is widely seen as one of the biggest managerial moves ahead of the new NPFL campaign, with expectations high that his appointment could mark the beginning of a new era for the Sai Masu Gida.
