Nigeria Women’s Football League champions Edo Queens have been handed a challenging assignment in the 2026 WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The Nigerian champions have been drawn in Group B alongside ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa and AS Garde Nationale of Niger.

The draw sets up a demanding test for Moses Aduku’s team, who will be hoping to navigate the group successfully and keep their hopes of another appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League alive.

The 2026 WAFU B qualifying tournament is scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso from August 23 to September 5. The competition will determine the club that represents the zone at the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Edo Queens chasing another continental appearance

Edo Queens will be making their second appearance in the WAFU B competition.

The Benin City-based club announced themselves on the regional stage in 2024 when they won the WAFU B title on their debut.

That triumph earned Edo Queens a place at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, where they made their maiden appearance at the continental finals.

The Nigerian side went on to finish fourth in that competition, gaining valuable experience against some of Africa’s leading women’s clubs.

Now, after reclaiming the NWFL Premiership title, Edo Queens have another opportunity to return to the continental stage.

Group B promises stiff competition

Their Group B opponents will provide a serious test.

ASEC Mimosas are among the established forces in the region, while Ampem Darkoa arrive as Ghana’s champions. AS Garde Nationale will complete the four-team group.

The Ghana Football Association described Ampem Darkoa’s group as a highly competitive one, with the Ghanaian champions facing ASEC Mimosas, Edo Queens and AS Garde Nationale.

Group A features hosts USFA of Burkina Faso, Dynamique FC de Calavi of Benin and ASKO of Togo, with reports indicating that the group line-up has one position still to be confirmed.

For Edo Queens, the immediate objective will be to make a strong start and secure progress from the group.

With Nigeria’s NWFL champions now preparing for the competition, attention will turn to Moses Aduku and his players as they attempt to repeat the success of 2024 and secure another place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The 2026 WAFU B qualifiers therefore represent more than another regional competition for Edo Queens. They offer the Nigerian champions a route back to Africa’s biggest stage in women’s club football.
