Portuguese champions secure Nigerian attacker on a long-term deal after her title-winning campaign with Fenerbahçe.
Portuguese champions Benfica Women have completed the signing of Nigerian winger Flourish Chioma Sabastine, adding one of the country’s brightest young attacking talents to their squad ahead of the new season.
The 21-year-old joins the Lisbon club as a free agent after the expiration of her contract with Turkish champions Fenerbahçe, where she enjoyed a successful campaign that ended with the club lifting the Turkcell Women’s Football Super League title.
Benfica confirmed that Sabastine has signed a long-term contract that runs until 2029, with the club also holding the option to extend the agreement by an additional year.
The move marks another significant step in the career of the Aba-born winger, who has built valuable experience across Europe despite her young age. Before arriving at Fenerbahçe, Sabastine featured for Turkish rivals Galatasaray, having previously spent time in France with Stade de Reims.
During the 2025/26 campaign, the Nigerian international played a key role in Fenerbahçe’s title-winning season. She contributed 12 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions, establishing herself as one of the club’s most influential attacking players.
Her performances attracted attention beyond Turkey, and Benfica have now moved swiftly to secure her services without paying a transfer fee.
The transfer also reunites Sabastine with fellow Nigerian international Christy Ucheibe, making her the second Super Falcons player currently on Benfica’s books. Ucheibe has been an important figure for the Portuguese champions in recent seasons and remains one of Nigeria’s key midfielders.
Speaking after completing the move, Sabastine expressed her excitement about beginning a new chapter in Portugal and sent an encouraging message to Benfica supporters.
The transfer offers Sabastine an opportunity to continue her development at one of Europe’s leading women’s clubs. Benfica will also benefit from the arrival of a dynamic winger known for her pace, dribbling ability and eye for goal.
Having represented clubs in France and Turkey before the age of 22, the Nigerian now faces a fresh challenge in Portugal, where she will be aiming to help Benfica defend their domestic title and make a strong impression in European competition.
