Super Eagles defender set for Turkish Super Lig return as Konyaspor prepare €1 million move.
Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Turkish Super Lig side Konyaspor, with the club expected to finalize a deal with French outfit Nantes ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Reports indicate that the Nigerian international has reached an agreement on a two-year contract, with an option that could keep him at the club for an additional season. Konyaspor are also understood to be preparing a transfer fee of around €1 million to secure the services of the experienced centre-back.
Awaziem joined Nantes from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids last summer but appears set for a quick departure after spending just one season in France. His exit comes after Nantes endured a difficult campaign that ended with relegation from Ligue 1 following a 17th-place finish.
During the 2025/26 league season, the 28-year-old featured in 26 league matches, contributing one goal and two assists while operating primarily in central defence. His experience and versatility remained important despite the club’s disappointing campaign.
A move to Konyaspor would represent a familiar return to Turkish football for Awaziem. The Super Eagles defender previously enjoyed successful spells with Çaykur Rizespor and Alanyaspor, where he established himself as a reliable and consistent performer in the Turkish top flight.
Konyaspor are expected to benefit from Awaziem’s experience as they prepare for the new campaign. The club concluded the 2025/26 season in eighth place in the Turkish Super Lig and also reached the Turkish Cup final, where they finished runners-up to Trabzonspor.
Should the transfer be completed, Awaziem will add leadership and top-level experience to Konyaspor’s defensive unit as the club looks to challenge for a stronger league finish in the upcoming season.
