The Super Eagles goalkeeper has resumed full training but is unlikely to feature in Udinese’s remaining pre-season friendlies.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has returned to full training with Udinese after recovering from a shoulder injury that disrupted his preparations for the new season.
The 26-year-old sustained the problem during Udinese’s pre-season training camp in Austria and subsequently underwent a rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the club’s medical staff.
Okoye has now stepped up his recovery by rejoining his teammates in full training as the Serie A side continues preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
Okoye missed Udinese’s pre-season games
The injury prevented Okoye from featuring in any of Udinese’s pre-season friendly matches so far.
Despite his return to full training, the club is reportedly taking a cautious approach with the Nigeria international and does not want to expose him to unnecessary risk before he is completely ready.
As a result, Okoye is expected to remain on the sidelines for Udinese’s upcoming friendlies against Barcelona and Nottingham Forest.
The priority is to ensure that the goalkeeper regains full match fitness before being thrown back into competitive action.
Coppa Italia return in sight
Okoye’s return to training nevertheless provides an encouraging boost ahead of the new campaign.
Udinese are scheduled to begin their competitive season against Padova in the first round of the Coppa Italia on Saturday, August 15, and the Nigerian goalkeeper is expected to be available for selection if he completes his recovery without any further setbacks.
The club’s cautious handling of the injury is aimed at reducing the risk of a recurrence and ensuring Okoye enters the competitive season in the best possible physical condition.
For Nigeria, his return is also welcome news as the Super Eagles continue to monitor the fitness of key players ahead of their upcoming international commitments.
