Nigerian midfielder scores from the penalty spot as Fulham complete a 2-1 comeback win before the start of the new Premier League campaign.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was on the scoresheet as Fulham fought back from a goal down to defeat Portuguese club Farense 2-1 in their final preseason fixture during the club’s training camp in Portugal.

The Nigerian international delivered another composed performance in midfield and made a significant contribution as Marco Silva’s men rounded off their preparations in Portugal with a confidence-building victory ahead of the new campaign.

Fulham trailed at the interval after Farense capitalised on their first-half advantage. However, the Premier League side emerged with renewed intensity after the break and quickly began creating opportunities in search of an equaliser.

Their breakthrough came when Emile Smith Rowe was fouled inside the penalty area. Iwobi confidently stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick and calmly placed his effort beyond the goalkeeper to level the contest.

The equalising goal shifted the momentum firmly in Fulham’s favour as they continued to press for a winner in the closing stages.

Their persistence paid off in the 89th minute when Rodrigo Muniz converted another penalty after Josh King was brought down inside the box, sealing a hard-earned 2-1 victory for the London club.

The result provides Fulham with a positive conclusion to their preseason programme, while Iwobi will be encouraged by another influential display ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a solid campaign last season, registering four goals and three assists in 29 Premier League appearances. Although Fulham narrowly missed out on European qualification, the Super Eagles midfielder remained one of the club’s most dependable performers throughout the season.

With the new season now approaching, Iwobi will be aiming to carry his preseason form into competitive action as Fulham look to challenge strongly in the Premier League.
