Nigerian international will remain with the Saudi Women’s Premier League club after agreeing to a new two-year contract.
Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has extended her stay with Saudi Women’s Premier League side Al-Ittihad Ladies, signing a new two-year contract that will keep her at the club until 2028.
The contract extension reflects the club’s confidence in the Nigerian international, who has become an important figure since arriving in Saudi Arabia in 2023.
Plumptre joined Al-Ittihad on a free transfer after leaving English club Leicester City at the end of her contract. Since making the switch, the 28-year-old has established herself as one of the team’s standout performers, contributing at both ends of the pitch.
Across 41 appearances for Al-Ittihad, the versatile defender has recorded 15 goals and 19 assists, underlining her influence despite primarily operating in defensive positions.
The former Notts County player is currently working her way back to full fitness after suffering a foot injury that has kept her out of action since March.
Because of the injury, Plumptre was left out of Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as the Super Falcons’ technical crew opted to prioritize her full recovery ahead of future international assignments.
Despite missing the upcoming continental tournament, Plumptre remains an important member of the national team. She played a key role in Nigeria’s successful WAFCON 2024 campaign, helping the Super Falcons secure a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
With her long-term future now settled at Al-Ittihad, the defender will focus on completing her rehabilitation before returning to club action in the Saudi Women’s Premier League and competing once again for a place in the Super Falcons squad.
