Coventry City have confirmed Nigerian international Frank Onyeka as their first signing ahead of their return to the English Premier League, following the club’s successful promotion campaign.

The Super Eagles midfielder joins the Sky Blues on a permanent deal from Brentford after initially arriving on loan earlier in the season. His signing was triggered following Coventry’s promotion, activating an obligation-to-buy clause in the agreement.

Onyeka Becomes Statement Signing for EPL Return

With preparations already underway for life back in the Premier League, Coventry have moved quickly to secure Onyeka’s services, making him their first confirmed addition of the new top-flight era.

The 28-year-old played an important supporting role during the promotion run-in, featuring in 12 matches under manager Frank Lampard and providing energy and defensive cover in midfield.

His early signing signals Coventry’s intent to build a competitive squad capable of surviving in one of the world’s toughest leagues.

Experience Across Europe

Onyeka brings valuable Premier League experience, having made 87 appearances for Brentford since joining from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2021.

He also gained further exposure in European football during a loan spell at Bundesliga club FC Augsburg before moving to Coventry.

His versatility, work rate, and tactical discipline are expected to play a key role as Coventry adjust to the demands of top-flight football.

Boost for Nigerian Presence in EPL

For Nigerian football fans, Onyeka’s return to the Premier League adds to the growing list of Super Eagles players competing at the highest level.

As Coventry prepare for the new season, the midfielder will be eager to re-establish himself in the league and help the club maintain its Premier League status.
