Simon and Adams goals hand Nigeria winning start in Antalya showdown

Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a hard-fought 2–1 win over Iran in an international friendly in Antalya, Turkey, with goals from Moses Simon and Akor Adams sealing a confident start to the four-nation invitational tournament.

The match, played at the Corendon Airlines Park in Antalya, forms part of preparations for both teams during the March FIFA international window.

Fast Start Gives Nigeria Early Control

Nigeria wasted no time asserting dominance, taking the lead inside the opening minutes. Moses Simon opened the scoring in the 6th minute after a sharp attacking move, finishing clinically to give the Super Eagles an early advantage.

The early goal set the tone for a lively first half, with Nigeria dictating tempo and showing attacking intent against a disciplined Iranian side.

Akor Adams Doubles Advantage

The Super Eagles extended their lead early in the second half when Akor Adams found the back of the net in the 52nd minute.

The Sevilla striker converted from close range after being set up by Ademola Lookman, capping off a well-worked team move and putting Nigeria firmly in control of the encounter.

Iran Respond Through Taremi

Iran fought back and reduced the deficit in the 67th minute through star forward Mehdi Taremi, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to make it 2–1.

Despite late pressure from the Asian side, Nigeria held firm defensively to secure the victory. The fixture is part of a four-nation international tournament involving Nigeria, Iran, Costa Rica, and Jordan, staged in Turkey after being relocated due to regional tensions.

The win provides a timely boost for Nigeria as the team continues to rebuild and integrate new talents into the squad, while also strengthening momentum ahead of future international competitions.
