Super Eagles Midfielder Joins Ligue 1 Side in Permanent Transfer Deal

Olympique de Marseille have completed the permanent transfer of Nigerian midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi from Belgian side SV Zulte Waregem, bringing one of Nigeria’s most promising young talents to French football in a deal reported to be worth around €6 million on deadline day of the winter transfer window.
At just 22 years old, the Super Eagles midfielder has signed a long-term contract with the Ligue 1 giants, committing his future to the Stade Vélodrome outfit until at least June 2030.
Nnadi, who will wear the number 6 jersey for Marseille, arrives with growing experience in European leagues and on the international stage, representing a major step in his young career as he seeks to establish himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
From Owerri to France: Nnadi’s Development Path
Born on 30 June 2003 in Ihiagwa, Imo State, Nigeria, Nnadi began his football education locally at Campos FC before progressing to the Madenat Alamal Football Academy in Dubai, a strategic move that opened his doors to European football.
His first professional contract came in August 2021 with Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, where he gained valuable first-team experience. After making his competitive debut against Ludogorets in April 2022, he continued his development in Bulgaria’s top tier.
In January 2024, Nnadi made the switch to Belgium’s Zulte Waregem in the Belgian Pro League, where consistent performances in defensive and central midfield roles brought him to the attention of scouts across Europe.
Super Eagles Breakthrough and International Recognition
Nnadi’s rise has not been limited to club football. His form earned him call-ups to the Nigerian national teams, including the U-20 squad at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he featured prominently in matches against Italy and Argentina.
His senior debut for the Super Eagles came during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, underscoring the midfielder’s increasing influence and potential for Nigeria’s national side.
What Nnadi Brings to Marseille’s Midfield
Marseille have targeted Nnadi as a midfield strengthening strategy, adding a player capable of combining defensive discipline, tactical versatility and pressing prowess — a profile suitable for coach Roberto De Zerbi’s dynamic, high-intensity system.
The Nigerian’s arrival bolsters Ligue 1 transfer headlines and Nigerian footballer abroad news for African football followers, showcasing a growing trend of Nigerian players making impactful moves in top European competitions.
Looking Ahead
As Nnadi settles into life at Olympique Marseille, all eyes will be on how quickly he adapts to the demands of French top-flight football and whether he can challenge for a regular starting place while enhancing his role with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
