Super Eagles striker again the hero as Sevilla climb away from relegation pressure.

Nigerian international Akor Adams continued his fine form abroad, scoring the decisive goal as Sevilla FC edged Athletic Club 2–1 in a crucial La Liga clash at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium on Saturday.

The Spanish giants battling to climb away from the relegation zone — welcomed Athletic Club to Seville in Matchday 21 of the 2025/26 La Liga season. Athletic struck first through Robert Navarro’s close-range finish in the 40th minute, capitalising on early Sevilla pressure.

Sevilla responded swiftly. Just two minutes later, Peque levelled with a composed strike shortly before half-time, setting the stage for a tense second half.

The decisive moment came in the 56th minute when Athletic’s Yuri Berchiche was penalised for a handball inside the box after a VAR review. Adams confidently stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick, sending Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simón the wrong way to hand Sevilla a crucial lead.

The 25-year-old Nigerian striker fresh from an impressive showing at AFCON 2025 with the Super Eagles — has now scored multiple goals in consecutive matches since his return from the tournament. His contribution has been pivotal in lifting Sevilla’s attacking threat and helping the club arrest a four-match winless streak in Spain’s top flight.

Sevilla will take confidence from this result as they aim to build momentum in La Liga, while Athletic Club will rue missed opportunities that could have earned them a point on the road.
