Pillars earn crucial three points to lift spirits after long drought as free kick from Manu seals the deal.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars ended a difficult run, securing a 2–1 win over Ikorodu City. Thanks to a composed header from Rabi’u Ali and a brilliant long-range free kick from Suleiman “Manu” Idris.

Pillars, under pressure after a seven-game winless streak, came out determined and struck early. In just the third minute, the seasoned captain Rabi’u Ali nodded home a well-flighted cross, not from a set piece, but from open play.

After settling the nerves, the Sai Masu Gida doubled their lead in the 25th minute. Manu, long known for his reliability, stepped up and curled a stunning 30-yard free kick into the net, his persistence finally paying off.

Ikorodu City, however, refused to go quietly. Just before halftime, Joseph Arumala rose to meet a corner and headed in to halve the deficit, giving his side hope of a comeback. Despite an energetic second half and tactical changes from Ikorodu, Pillars held firm, defending smartly and seeing out the match to claim all three points.

The victory moves Kano Pillars off their winless run, a psychological boost for the Kano side; adding three valuable points to their tally. Meanwhile, Ikorodu City’s momentum takes a hit, denying them a chance to climb further up the NPFL table.

Looking ahead, Pillars will aim to build on this confidence in their next fixture. With the Ikorodu challenge settled, attention now turns to the next assignment in two weeks against Kun Khalifat. The scheduled clash with Rivers United next week may be postponed due to Rivers United’s continental engagement. For Ikorodu City, it’s back to the drawing board as they look to respond in upcoming matches.
