New leadership at Khalifat, while Abia Warriors remain strong contenders in Nigeria’s top flight.

Abia Warriors FC continue to impress in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), currently sitting fourth on the table with 22 points from 13 matches. While they are not at the very top, the club has displayed remarkable consistency and competitiveness under the guidance of coach Imama Amapakabo, positioning themselves as serious contenders for the upper echelons of the league.
The Warriors’ recent 2–1 victory over Niger Tornadoes highlighted their attacking prowess, with Sunday Megwo scoring one of the goals and an own goal by Tornadoes’ Sunday Akinmoladun contributing to the win. That result has further strengthened Abia Warriors’ campaign as they prepare to face Bendel Insurance FC in Matchday 14, with hopes of maintaining momentum and continuing their push toward the league’s top spots.
While Abia Warriors continue their steady climb, Kun Khalifat FC, navigating their first season in the NPFL, have taken decisive steps to address early struggles. Following a 1–1 home draw against Nasarawa United on Matchday 13, the club announced sweeping changes to its technical staff. Former head coach Obinna Uzoho and his team, including assistant Chinedu Okonkwo, were relieved of their duties as part of a strategic move to stabilize the club’s fortunes.
In a bold decision, Kun Khalifat appointed Emmanuel Osigwe, a former Nigeria international striker, as their new head coach. Osigwe will be assisted by Chinedu Okonkwo, a CAF B license holder who has been part of the club’s technical discussions for weeks. Osigwe’s first test comes this Sunday against Warri Wolves in Ozoro, and the club hopes the coaching change will spark immediate improvement in results.
The upcoming Matchday 14 fixtures will be critical in shaping the league table and could set the tone for the battles ahead. Abia Warriors aim to maintain their strong position, while all eyes will be on Emmanuel Osigwe as he seeks to steer Kun Khalifat to better fortunes in Nigeria’s top flight.
