From start to finish, the Vipers kept the pace in Nigeria’s elite Division 1 competition

The VIP Spikers Volleyball Club of Abuja, popularly known as the Vipers, have been crowned champions of the 2025 National Division 1 Volleyball League (Women’s Category), capping off a remarkable unbeaten campaign. The team dominated both phases of the competition in Abia on Saturday, leaving a lasting mark on Nigerian women’s volleyball.

The Vipers won all 20 of their matches, amassing 59 points, and secured automatic qualification for the 2026 CGC Volleyball Premier League. Their dominant performance was a testament to consistency, discipline, and tactical excellence, earning them widespread admiration from fans and analysts alike.

Several players received individual accolades for their stellar contributions. Precious Nwadiogor was named Best Middle Blocker, Gift Iwobi won Best Attacker, and Precious Terseer took home the Most Valuable Player award, highlighting the depth of talent within the squad.

Team Manager Abiodun Suraj lauded the players, led by captain Chilota Marvellous, for their determination and teamwork. “The players have been exceptional from start to finish, showing real character, discipline, and hunger to win every single match,” Suraj said. He credited the coaching crew, including multiple national champion Franscica Ikhiede and John Pada, for their historic guidance.

Suraj emphasized the team’s strategic approach: blending youthful energy with experience. “Our philosophy is to invest in young players and give them a platform to grow. We blended youth with experience, and that balance paid off perfectly,” he explained.

In a nod to Nigerian culture, the team celebrated their victory in traditional Adire attire, promoting the country’s image while showcasing their pride. Suraj also expressed gratitude to the club’s sponsors for their support over the team’s short but impactful five-month existence. “We appreciate our sponsors for believing in us. Their support and logistics made this journey possible, and we’re proud to repay that faith with a championship,” he added.

The Vipers’ unbeaten triumph is not just a testament to talent but also to planning, discipline, and the growing competitiveness of Nigerian women’s volleyball. For fans both at home and in the diaspora, the story of the Vipers signals a bright future for the sport and a reminder that Nigerian women athletes are making history on and off the court.
