The Falconets, Nigeria’s under-20 women’s football team and two-time FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup silver medallists, have begun preparations in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, ahead of their second-round, second-leg match against Rwanda’s She-Amavubi. The crucial encounter is scheduled for Saturday in the race to qualify for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

On Monday afternoon, the team, along with officials, was warmly welcomed in Ibadan by Honorable Wasilat Adegoke, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports. She expressed the government’s full support and encouragement for the Falconets, offering prayers for their success in the important fixture.

Captain Joy Igbokwe expressed gratitude to the Oyo State Government on behalf of her teammates. She reassured supporters that the Falconets are fully prepared and determined to deliver an outstanding performance that will bring pride to Nigeria.

In officiating news, the Confederation of African Football has appointed Gambian referee Ngum Fatou to oversee Saturday’s match. She will be assisted by her fellow Gambian officials Jainaba Manneh, Abbie Ceesay, and Isatou Touray, who will serve as assistant referees and fourth official respectively. Jodie Marian Reid Seton from Liberia will act as the commissioner, while Egyptian Hayam Mohammed Baraka will serve as the referee assessor.
