Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, will begin their title defence at the 2026 Unity Cup with a highly anticipated clash against Zimbabwe in London.

The four-nation invitational tournament is scheduled to take place from May 26 to May 30 at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, with Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, and India confirmed as participants.

According to official fixtures, the Super Eagles will face Zimbabwe in the opening semi-final on May 26, setting the tone for what promises to be a competitive and culturally vibrant tournament.

The second semi-final will see Jamaica take on India a day later, while both the third-place playoff and the final are scheduled for May 30 at the same venue.

Nigeria head into the competition as defending champions, having won the previous edition after edging Jamaica in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

The upcoming encounter between Nigeria and Zimbabwe is expected to rekindle recent rivalry between both sides, following their meetings in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Organisers have described the Unity Cup as more than just a football tournament, with the event combining elite sport and cultural celebration, particularly among diaspora communities in the United Kingdom.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau expressed optimism about the team’s chances, noting that the Super Eagles will aim to retain their title while respecting the quality of the opposition.

Zimbabwe have also confirmed their participation, viewing the tournament as an opportunity to showcase their progress on the international stage and compete against top-level opposition.

With all eyes on London, the Super Eagles will be looking to make a strong statement in their opening match as they begin their quest to successfully defend the Unity Cup title.
