Leverkusen, Germany — Nigerian international Nathan Tella has officially extended his contract with German Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen, committing his longterm future to the reigning German champions until June 30, 2031.

The 26yearold winger joined Leverkusen from Southampton in 2023 and has gradually established himself as a key figure in the Werkself squad. Originally tied to a contract set to expire in 2028, Tella and the club agreed to add three more years to his deal — a sign of mutual confidence and ambition.

A Vote of Confidence

Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes praised Tella’s impact both on the pitch and in the dressing room, describing him as “a topclass professional” whose pace and quality make him a valuable asset to the team’s tactical approach.

Despite battling injuries this season — including a knee and foot setback that limited him to around 16 appearances — Tella’s overall influence has convinced Leverkusen to secure his services well into the next decade.

Born in England of Nigerian descent, Tella represents the Super Eagles at international level and continues to be one of the promising Nigerian talents making a mark in Europe’s top leagues. Across all competitions since his arrival at Leverkusen, he has contributed with goals and assists while showcasing versatility as a winger and forward threat.

Tella’s longterm extension signals Leverkusen’s intentions to build around his attacking strengths as they pursue domestic and continental success in the coming seasons.
