Plymouth Argyle striker Owen Oseni has expressed a strong desire to represent Nigeria at international level, despite being eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland and Ivory Coast.

The 22-year-old forward, who was born in Waterford, Ireland, qualifies to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian father, while also retaining eligibility for Ivory Coast via his heritage and Ireland by birth.

According to reports, Oseni has already positioned himself firmly in favour of Nigeria, with contacts made regarding a potential invitation to the national team setup ahead of upcoming fixtures later this year.

Super Eagles move gaining momentum

Hot Sports Scoops understands that there are currently no administrative barriers preventing Oseni from donning the green and white. The striker holds a valid Nigerian passport and has not represented either the Republic of Ireland or Ivory Coast at youth or senior level, leaving the door fully open for a nationality switch.

This development puts Nigeria in a strong position to secure yet another dual-national talent, especially at a time when competition for diaspora players is intensifying globally.

Impressive form attracting European interest

Oseni’s growing reputation in England has not gone unnoticed. The forward is enjoying a standout campaign with Plymouth Argyle, contributing 15 goal involvements in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Even more eye-catching is his recent form, with five goal contributions in his last three League One matches, underlining his attacking consistency and sharpness in front of goal.

His performances have reportedly attracted interest from top European clubs, including Scottish giants Celtic F.C. and Belgian side Racing Genk, as well as several English Championship teams ahead of the summer transfer window.

Nigeria look to win another diaspora battle

In recent years, the Republic of Ireland has successfully recruited several players of Nigerian descent, including Adam Idah and Chiedozie Ogbene. However, Nigeria now appear to be leading the race for Oseni’s international allegiance.

With the Super Eagles looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of future competitions, Oseni could emerge as a valuable addition if his development continues on its current trajectory.

At just 22, the striker is widely regarded as a player with significant upside—one who could play a key role for both club and country in the coming years.
