Enyimba International showed grit and attacking class as they came from behind twice to claim a thrilling 3–2 victory over Bendel Insurance in their NPFL Matchday 5 clash at the Enyimba International Stadium on Sunday. The contest lived up to its billing, producing five goals, two comebacks, and a statement of intent from the reigning champions.

Match in Focus

Bendel Insurance shocked the Aba faithful almost instantly when Chinedu Nwosu put the visitors ahead inside just 2 minutes. The goal came from a well-executed break that caught Enyimba’s backline napping.

But the hosts responded swiftly. Joseph Abiodun restored parity in the 18th minute, finding the net after sustained pressure from the People’s Elephant. It stayed level until halftime.

Insurance regained the lead early in the second half, this time through Wisdom Udom, who slotted home after a defensive mix-up in the 53rd minute, making it 2–1 in favour of the Benin Arsenal.

Enyimba, unfazed, showed the mentality of champions. They were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute, which Kalu Nweke converted confidently to make it 2–2.

Just four minutes later, the turnaround was complete. Substitute Chidera Michael pounced on a loose ball in the area to fire home the winner in the 69th minute, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Despite late pressure from Bendel Insurance, Enyimba held on to seal all three points in what was arguably one of the most entertaining fixtures of the season so far.
