Enyimba FC delivered a dramatic and morale-boosting performance on Sunday, coming from behind twice to beat Bendel Insurance 3-2 at home in Aba. The People’s Elephant trailed early after a 2nd-minute goal by Bendel’s Chinedu Nwosu, only for Joseph Abiodun to level in the 18th minute. Insurance reclaimed the lead around the hour mark through Nwosu again, but Enyimba showed character.
The comeback began just minutes later when Kalu Nweke calmly converted a penalty in the 65th minute to pull Enyimba level. Then in the 69th minute substitute Chidera Michael sealed the turnaround with a well-taken winner that sent the home crowd into jubilation.
State Governor Alex Otti, who watched on at the Enyimba International Stadium, was visibly impressed. As a reward for their fightback, he announced he would give ₦10 million for each goal scored by Enyimba, meaning the club would receive a total of ₦30 million from the governor’s office. He told the players their performance had made him happy.
With this win, Enyimba continue on top of the NPFL table after five rounds, asserting their title credentials early in the season.

What This Means
- For Enyimba, this result confirms their resilience and ability to handle pressure, coming through adversity. It’s also a moral boost, especially with the governor backing them in a tangible way.
- For Bendel Insurance, despite the strong start, this defeat will sting. They had two moments in the game when they led but couldn’t close it out. Defensive lapses or errors after halftime hurt them.
