Nigeria’s representatives to the 2025 WAFU B Schools Football Championship will be confirmed this Friday in Abuja at the conclusion of a round robin tournament currently underway in the nation’s capital.

The ongoing competition is taking place at two venues the FIFA Goal Project within the MKO Abiola National Stadium and the Area 3 Football Pitch; with teams from several states battling for the honour of flying the country’s flag in the sub regional championship later this year.

In the female category, school teams from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adamawa, Gombe, and Lagos States are in contention, while the male category features representatives from FCT, Kaduna, Delta, Enugu, Ekiti, and Taraba States.

At the end of the competition, the winning school from each category will earn the right to represent Nigeria at the WAFU B Schools Football Championship, scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso from the 27th to the 30th of November 2025.

In addition to the official representatives, players who show exceptional skill during the tournament may be selected from other participating schools to form a ‘Schools National Team’ a combined squad aimed at promoting elite grassroots talent.

The WAFU B Schools Championship is a qualifying tournament for the prestigious CAF African Schools Football Championship, which will bring together top school teams from other African regions including CECAFA (East and Central Africa), COSAFA (Southern Africa), UNAF (North Africa), UNIFFAC (Central Africa), and WAFU A (West Africa Zone A).

The initiative is part of CAF’s broader goal to use school football as a tool for youth development across the continent, with Nigeria’s Football Federation actively supporting the programme in collaboration with state and national education bodies.
