As the FIFA U-20 World Cup kicks off in Chile, Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has confidently declared that Nigeria’s squad is stronger and more battle-tested than previous editions and ready to make a real impact on the world stage.

Speaking shortly after the team’s arrival in Chile, Bameyi reflected on lessons learned from the 2023 U-20 World Cup and the U-20 AFCON, where Nigeria’s campaign ended in a tight 1–0 quarterfinal loss to South Korea.

“We’ve trained hard. We’ve grown from past tournaments,” Bameyi said. “This squad has improved mentally, tactically, and physically. It’s not the same team from WAFU or even the last AFCON. We’re sharper now.”

Though not officially confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation, reports suggest the Flying Eagles played two warm-up matches upon arrival; a 1–1 draw against Chile and a 3–1 win over Australia. The coaching staff used those games to fine-tune their tactical identity and build confidence.
