Tokyo, 2025

Nigeria’s sprint queen Tobi Amusan has expressed deep gratitude toward legendary Jamaican coach Glen Mills, saying his belief in her helped lay the foundation for her silver-medal run in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Amusan, who crossed the finish line in 12.29 seconds, said that Mills’s influence on her training, mindset, and technique has made a difference in her return to the global podium.

“He believed in me,” said Amusan, reflecting on the journey that led her back to getting a medal at the world stage.

While Amusan remains Nigeria’s only medallist so far at these Championships, her performance has sparked excitement about what’s to come from the rest of the team. With more events ahead, she hopes this momentum inspires others in the squad to reach the podium.
