Authorities have launched an international search after the ex-FC Copenhagen winger failed to report to serve a one-year jail term.
Danish authorities have begun an international search for former Nigeria youth international Akinkunmi Amoo, who is wanted after reportedly leaving Denmark before serving a one-year prison sentence.
According to reports from TV 2 Sport, later identified by Bold as relating to Amoo, Copenhagen Police have issued an international request to locate the former FC Copenhagen winger following a final court ruling in his criminal case.
Police said Amoo has been remanded in custody in absentia while authorities work to secure his return to Denmark so that he can begin serving his sentence.
The 24-year-old was convicted by the Copenhagen City Court in June 2023 on charges including assault, rape involving a sexual act other than intercourse, and attempted rape. He challenged the verdict, but the Eastern High Court dismissed his appeal in 2024 after he failed to appear for the hearing, making both the conviction and sentence final.
At the time, Amoo’s legal representative reportedly said his absence from court was due to visa-related difficulties.
Following his conviction in 2023, FC Copenhagen completed his transfer to Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia. However, his stay with the club ended after the appeal process concluded and the conviction was upheld.
The former 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup player later signed for Chinese club SH JD Huilong in February 2025. He became a free agent after his contract expired at the end of that year.
Reports indicate that Amoo’s current whereabouts remain unknown, although there has been speculation linking him with a possible move to Thailand. Danish police have not publicly confirmed his location.
The case marks a significant development involving the former Golden Eaglets player, who was once regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising young football talents before beginning his professional career in Europe.
