Defending champions set for another battle to maintain their dominance in African women’s football.

Nigeria’s head coach, Justine Madugu, has unveiled the official 25-player Super Falcons squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as the reigning champions prepare to defend their continental title in Morocco.
The Nigeria Football Federation released the squad on Friday through the Super Falcons’ official X account, confirming a mix of seasoned internationals and promising young players for the prestigious tournament.
Leading the squad is captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who will once again spearhead Nigeria’s title challenge alongside first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. They headline a squad filled with experienced campaigners who have represented Nigeria at major international competitions.
Defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Jennifer Echegini, forward Francisca Ordega, and striker Gift Monday are also among the players selected as Nigeria seeks another successful outing at Africa’s biggest women’s football competition.
One of the notable omissions from the squad is defender Ashleigh Plumptre, who was not included in Madugu’s final selection.
The Super Falcons squad for WAFCON 2026 reflects a balance between experienced leaders and emerging talents, with the coaching crew hoping the blend will help Nigeria maintain its dominance on the continent.
Nigeria remains the most successful nation in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, having lifted the trophy 10 times—in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2024.
